GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Tuesday was the first day of school for most kids in the Green Bay Area Public School District.
Kids in grades 4k-6th, and 9th grade have the first day of the new school year under their belt, and new superintendent Dr. Claude Tiller Jr. took the opportunity to ride the bus with kids to school in the morning.
“I learned that Green Bay is vast; it stretches out into rural areas that I didn’t even know existed,” said Dr. Tiller. “I learned that a lot of our kids come from farms, and corn, and it was just amazing!”
Now that kids are in school, the hard work begins.
“We can work on attendance, the ELA scores, and raising math scores,” said Dr. Tiller. “Since kids are in the buildings, we can start accessing them, looking at their scores, and moving our trajectory going up.”
Students in grades 7-8, and 10-12 start school Wednesday.
