HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Deputies say a criminal gang that’s been hitting ATM’s around the country may be connected to a damaged ATM in Howard.
Around 1:37 a.m. Tuesday, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office received an alarm trip from the Nicolet Bank ATM located at 2380 Duck Creek Parkway.
Responding officers found the ATM damaged and began a search of the area and surrounding surveillance cameras.
Two vehicles of interest were identified via video surveillance. Officers located one of the vehicles and performed a traffic stop. The driver of that vehicle was taken into custody without incident. Officers located the other vehicle which had been abandoned.
Law enforcement used drones and K9’s to search the area of the I-41 bridge on Memorial Drive but could not find the occupants of the second vehicle.
Investigators believe this incident is related to the Hook & Chain Gang which has been hitting ATM’s across the country.
Authorities say there is no known threat to the community.
