Every Dark Shadow Book Cover
APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — Appleton author, Sarah Zimm, is anticipating the release date of her new book Every Dark Shadow.
Every Dark Shadow is a YA/adult crossover fantasy set across parallel versions of New York in the 1800s.
While Every Dark Shadow isn’t the first book Zimm has written, its the first to hit the shelves.
“This book was born from a dream of a soldier stepping out of a shadow and grabbing a young woman and saving her from going into a factory he somehow knew was going to burn,” said Zimm.
The full synopsis is as follows:
To stop a mad king from siphoning magic, a young woman spelled to forget what’s inside her, and the scholar, smugger, and soldier who guard her in the mortal realm, must return to their own world amid an impending war between high-born mortals and the magic-born, in search of the spellcaster who buried her memories, as another dark force rises to stake its claim on the kingdom.
Zimm started on the book mid-pandemic; spending eight months working on the first draft, another two months editing, then another few months formatting the book.
Through the process, Zimm said a lot of her creative inspiration came from her surroundings and taking walks along local trails.
“Taking pictures of these majestic old trees inspired a lot of the magical forest I wrote about,” said Zimm.
Zimm also gave advice to aspiring writers.
“Go to the local library; There’s a lot of events and workshops that they do,” said Zimm. “Local book stores are good for that as well. In the Green Bay area, Lions Mouth Bookstore does a lot of writing workshops.”
Every Dark Shadow will be available on all major online retailers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, and Smashwords beginning August 29.
