DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) — The Brown County Fair is a time-honored and cherished tradition for families and youth; the annual event is coming back this week Wednesday through Sunday at the fairgrounds in De Pere.
Between the rides, food, animal/craft exhibitors, live music, entertainment and more, there’s something for everyone. This year, Dominguez Circus, as seen on America’s Got Talent, will be performing multiple times throughout the fair. Click here for the full entertainment schedule.
This year, the fair has a full house for animals. Sheila Steinfeldt, administrator for the Brown County Fair, says all animal showings this year are up from last year by hundreds. The most popular animal to show is pigs.
“When they [the exhibitor] buy the animal, within three months it can go to market. So it’s a quick turn-around animal,” said Steinfeldt. “Also, swine is easier to show than other animals because you’re not grooming them.”
She says there’s been a significant increase in chickens as well. Green Bay, Allouez, and De Pere allow residents to raise chickens at their homes.
“COVID-19 really encouraged that because people wanted to have something to do, and egg prices went up,” said Steinfeldt. “So that really encouraged a lot more people to be poultry producers.”
General admission for the Brown County Fair is $15 at the door, except for Sunday when admission is $10. General admission includes parking, unlimited rides, and entertainment.
On Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, the carnival will be open specifically for individuals with special needs and their families. Click here for more information.
Sunday is military and veteran appreciation day; featuring free admission for Military, Reservist, National Guard, Veterans and one guest (rides not included).
About 40 thousand visitors are expected to attend over the course of the five-day event.
