APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Thrivent’s annual ‘Live Generously’ t-shirts have become ubiquitous symbols — not just in the Green Bay area, but nationally and even around the world — of the importance of giving back.
Clients and volunteers earn these t-shirts by hosting or participating in volunteer projects spearheaded through the Thrivent Action Teams program, which has raised more than $1 billion since 2014. Through that process, Thrivent has given away 13 million Live Generously t-shirts.
“Members are eligible to hold up to two Action Team events each year,” explained Tina Orheim, an operation specialist with Thrivent. “It’s going out into your community and sharing your generosity, looking for a way to help someone or an organization in need, and bringing your family and friends together to help you with that event.”
In the Green Bay and Appleton area alone, more than 470,000 volunteers have donated 3.2 million hours of their time and raised more than $57 million for their local communities through Thrivent’s program.
Beginning in 2016, Thrivent opened its t-shirt design process to the general public, allowing people to cast their votes on what the upcoming year’s t-shirt would look like — drawing tens of thousands of voters annually.
Voting for the 2024 Thrivent t-shirt design kicked off on Aug. 14 and will close on Aug. 18 at 11:59 p.m. CT, with three designs to choose from. The company will announce the winning design on its website on Aug. 21.
More than two million Live Generously t-shirts are shipped nationwide each year.
