TOWN OF BYRON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – One person has died after drowning at the Breezy Hill Campground in the town of Byron on Thursday.
Around 5:45 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an individual trapped underneath an inflatable floating dock in a swimming pond at the campground.
Two members of the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office Dive Team removed their patrol gear and entered the water before their dive equipment arrived to begin search efforts, according to officials.
Just before 6:30 p.m., an unresponsive male was recovered in 10 feet of water and brought to shore, where resuscitation efforts were administered. He was taken in an ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The victim was reportedly visiting the campground with a local organization that works to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
