Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers squared their series with the Philadelphia Phillies with a 5-3 victory at Citizen’s Bank Ballpark Wednesday night. All five runs came home thanks to doubles. Blake Perkins had the first one, a two run double in the top of the third. Christian Yelich brought Perkins home with a liner into the left field corner for a 3-0 lead. Colin Rea served up a solo home run to Nick Castellanos in the 4th and the Phillies evened the score with a pair in the 5th, one of those runs was unearned. The Brewer bullpen went to work with Hoby Milner, Elvis Peguero and Joel Payamps each pitching a hitless inning. Catcher William Contreras then took over the game. He ripped a two out, go ahead RBI double in the top of the 7th and added another two bagger to bring home an insurance run in the top of the 9th. Closer Devin Williams ran into trouble in the final inning, giving up two hits but Contreras gunned down Bryson Stott trying to steal and Williams finished it off for the save. The Brewers moved back to 10 games over .500 at 53-43 and maintained their two and a half game lead in the NL Central over Cincinnati, which snapped a six game slide by beating San Francisco 3-2.
