WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man who set a dead man’s home on fire rather than report the death to authorities was convicted Monday.
Steven Eggert was convicted of solicitation of first-degree intentional homicide after entering an Alford plea. In such a plea, the suspect maintains innocence but acknowledges the state has enough evidence for a conviction.
He also pleaded no contest to other counts, including arson and mutilating a corpse. Several other counts were dismissed.
No sentencing date has been set, according to court records.
