GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Packers training camp begins in just over a week, on July 26. And much like the players are preparing for the upcoming season, renovations and additions in and around Lambeau Field are nearing completion and are already welcoming visitors.
Excitement for the next Packers season is building in the stadium district. And while fans are anxious to see the team on the field, visitors are happy to see Lot 1 along Oneida Street has reopened too.
“I’ve been so used to looking across the street and not seeing the parking lot or maybe being able to see the top of the construction vehicles over the top of the fencing that was covered. So, now, to be able to see the whole things, makes life back to normal,” said Terry Charles with PMI Entertainment.
The lot had been closed since the end of the 2021 season. That’s when the Packers began construction on a stadium addition.
Almost complete, the multi-story addition houses an underground parking garage with 190 spaces for players and team staff. It also has office space for coaches as well as football personnel. And the project enabled the organization to expand its weight room and rehab space, including a larger indoor turf field that can be used for walk-throughs and other training.
“It seems like all you ever saw was cranes and construction and never quite knowing what was happening but always a lot of activity — everything always changing here, always,” said Corrine Vercauteren from Suamico,
A separate project is going on in the stadium bowl itself. The Packers are upgrading and enlarging the video scoreboards at both the north and south ends of the stadium.
Work on concessions stands and the addition of screens inside the concourse will ensure gameday visitors don’t miss a minute of football action.
“It’s great to see that the stadium is always growing and always becoming a bigger part of the City of Green Bay and how it’s giving back so much and how it’s always continuing to bring much more into the City of Green Bay,” said Kharis and Sam Schultz of Appleton.
Not only will the completion of these projects be a benefit for those who come to Lambeau Field, but the reopening of Lot 1 is something officials with PMI Entertainment, the organization that manages the Resch Complex is excited about.
PMI partners with the Packers and uses the lot along Oneida Street for Resch Complex event parking. Having access to Lot 1 again, according to PMI officials, is a game changer.
“People adjust when a parking lot goes away, but when it got tricky is when, during the busy season, when Lambeau Field had something going on at the same time the Resch Complex had something going on,” explained Charles. “Things got pretty tight with parking. Now, with the additional lot back, it’s going to make life a lot easier.”
And its reopening was a nice surprise for those visiting the Resch Expo too.
“We looked over toward the Pro Shop, and we said, ‘Let’s go around the block and see and we were able to get in,'” said Vercauteren. “At first, we saw the construction — thought maybe we couldn’t and then we realized it was open. Very convenient and much appreciated.”
The Packers say that over the next week or so, ahead of training camp, the staff and personnel whose offices will be in this new addition will be moving into the new space.
The newly reopened Lot 1 should see a lot of action next Monday when the Packers hold their annual shareholders meeting.
