FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Fond du Lac firefighters are reminding the public to call 911 if they have a fire in their home no matter how small after an apartment building fire.
Firefighters say around 2 a.m. Monday, they received a call on a non-emergency phone line to look at a bathroom exhaust fan in an apartment at 234 S. National Avenue. The occupant said there had been a small fire in the fan earlier in the evening that he extinguished and now could smell what seemed like wires burning and he would like it checked out.
On arrival, fire crews found fire in the attic and walls of the bathroom and crews immediately called for an upgraded assignment for a working structure fire.
All residents were evacuated and the fire was under control within 20 minutes while crews remained on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
Residents were allowed back into all of the units with the exception of the two units damaged by the fire.
Three residents of the two apartments were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross and building management.
There were no injuries reported due to the fire.
