GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — State and federal funding are fueling Green Bay’s clean energy goals.
City leaders held a news conference along the East River at Emile Park Thursday.
They commended the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) for providing financial incentives to speed the transition to a zero-pollution energy future.
Green Bay is leveraging the IRA’s incentives to aid in their goal to reach 100% clean energy and carbon neutrality by 2050.
Seth Hoffmeister, chair of Green Bay Sustainability Commission, says the city is taking the important first steps.
“We’re already feeling the effects of climate change today, from the flooding on the East River behind us here, to the haze we’ve been seeing from the wildfire, the air advisories that have made it hard for us to go outside and breathe and bike and walk and just go bout our days to the more extreme and unpredictable weather events that we’re seeing more and more frequently,” he said.
The city says it has plans to deploy clean energy technology, maximize and optimize clean energy efficiency, innovate transportation and modernize buildings and industry.
