GREENLEAF, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Voters in the core area of Greenleaf overwhelmingly passed a proposal to become a village Tuesday with 106 people voting yes and 9 people voting no.
Last year, a state board approved the incorporation of part of the town of Wrightstown into the village of Greenleaf. It incorporates about 320 acres of the town into the village, centered around the State 57 and State 96 roundabout. The remaining 32.3 square miles remains as the town of Wrightstown.
Those who support the move say becoming a village will allow more control over its borders, tax and revenue base, while also preserving the community’s identity and heritage.
Stephanie Owen, petitioner for incorporation, says the transition to a village would be seamless and transparent. Village of Greenleaf residents will receive the same services from law enforcement, fire protection, school, water, sewer, garbage, recycling and snowplowing that they currently receive.
