Make it three in a row for the Denmark Vikings baseball team. Denmark defeated St. Thomas More 3-2 in an 11 inning thriller to capture the WIAA Division 2 state championship at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton Thursday afternoon. The game was tied at 1 heading to the ninth when Denmark pushed across a run but Thomas More forced extra innings in the bottom of the ninth. In the top of the 11th, what could have been an inning ending double play instead resulted in an unearned run when the relay throw got away from the first basemen which brought the eventual winning run across. The Vikings finished off the final three outs to make it a three-peat for Head Coach Bill Miller and Denmark which capped another championship season with a glittering, 30-2 record.
In the Division 1 final, Whitefish Bay scored four runs in the second to go to beat Hortonville 5-1. The Polar Bears had to settle for silver after finishing the year 26-5. St. Croix Falls captured the Division 3 championship with a 3-1 victory over Aquinas and Ithaca won the Division 4 title by beating Pecatonica 8-7.
