OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — UW-Oshkosh’s childcare center will remain open, despite the university’s announcement last month that the center would be permanently closing at the end of June.
UWO announced Tuesday that the Oshkosh Community YMCA had partnered with the school to ensure the center could remain open.
The school had said the center was closing due to staff shortages and money issues. The center, which is licensed for 150 children, only had 50 children enrolled during the spring semester.
“Our review of the YMCA’s operations and the cooperative spirit we have seen from the YMCA leaders confirm our confidence that we are collaborating with a caring, community-oriented nonprofit partner,” said UWO Chancellor Andrew Leavitt. “We are confident the stability and quality of care at the CLCC will only increase.”
UWO and the YMCA are working to finalize the details of the agreement.
