HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The nice weather, warming into the 80’s this weekend, brought out people to the Duck Creek Quarry in Howard.
The popular swimming location opened up this past week, and this year is welcoming some non-Howard residents.
“I’m here all summer usually,” says Howard resident, Adam Williams.
“We definitely try to get here once a week if not more, it’s a nice amenity to have so close,” says Howard resident, Abbi Kinner.
Kids who are still in school say they are excited to get a taste of what their summer will be like.
“We’re here to tan and just go swimming with our friends, and we’re going to explore the caves in the water over there later, and probably go by the trees,” says Howard resident, Ember Coe.
“I like how it’s very wide open and it’s like a beach because we don’t have one here,” says Howard resident, Vincent Hunt.
Howard residents say they wait for the opening of the quarry each year.
“It’s always nice when it opens because it’s something to do in summer, because we don’t really have like a cabin or place to go necessarily, so this is kind of like the little escape on the weekend for us,” says Howard resident, Adam Hunt.
This year the Village of Howard is allowing 250 non-resident households to come and use the quarry.
People out swimming, say they’re excited to see the beach busier this summer.
“Yeah I have a lot of people that live on the edge of Suamico so now they can come here,” says Howard resident, Brooke Fletcher.
“I don’t really see my friends a lot in the summer so it will be nice to see them at the quarry,” says Vincent Hunt.
Desirae Hood of Ashwaubenon, was one of the lucky lottery winners from out of town to get quarry wristbands for this summer.
“I think I texted her immediately I was like I think I got the wristbands, because this was always something we would do back in the summer before COVID happened and we would come here almost every day,” says Hood.
Hood’s friend Mackenzie Fitol of Green Bay, is excited she can now come again as a guest.
“I was super excited because I know that it would be something that we could do together, because hanging out isn’t really fun unless you’re like doing something,” says Fitol.
Others are just excited to have more families be able to enjoy the quarry.
“It’s nice to have other people here especially other kids and other families especially with these kiddos,” says Kinner.
