GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The patio at Hagemeister Park along The CityDeck in downtown Green Bay has been open for a few weeks.
“We knew that first or second week of April when it got really nice we had to be ready, when it’s nice out people just show up. So you’ve got to be ready, so if it’s cold that day you shut it down, if it’s nice you’re ready to go,” says Hagemeister Park’s general manager, Corey Vann.
Vann says having a patio like this on a warm day, increases sales for the restaurant.
“It’s unbelievable, it’s just night and day the difference between a cold windy day, and between a nice sunny day you just look around you’ve got boats, you’ve got people on bikes,” says Vann.
The Klewer family rode here on bikes all the way from Howard.
“I think it’s really nice for people who want to enjoy the outdoor weather,” says Esther Klewer.
Others enjoyed their first stop on a girls day.
“I love it, it’s great I just moved from California about a year ago, so being out in the sun and soaking it all in is awesome,” says Sarina Vang.
“I love how Wisconsinites are always out and enjoying the weather so when I see everybody out together like this, I love it, it makes me more excited for summer,” says Pazoo Vang.
The Depot, on the west side of the Fox River, also opened its patio recently.
“It’s amazing, everyone is just itching to be outside, so they just come and take up a spot on one of the tables, hit the sun, and just enjoy the summer,” says The Depot’s head chef Rebecca Blaisdell.
Blaisdell says having an outdoor space can be unpredictable.
“The weather is always dicey especially at this early time of year,” says Blaisdell.
Staff members at The Creamery say they are waiting just a couple more days to fully open their patio for service, but the tables are out.
“Right now we are kind of waiting for that solid weather of in the 70’s, 80’s, some days it’s in the 80’s, some days it’s in the 60’s…but we are welcoming people to come out here (on the patio) and grab a cup of coffee while they are waiting for their table,” says The Creamery’s General Manager, Jim Jansen.
Jansen says he expects the patio will be fully open for Memorial Day Weekend.
