GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It was a community effort to combat invasive species in Green Bay Friday.
Volunteers gathered at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary for the 3rd annual garlic mustard pull.
These fast-producing invasive plants take over forested areas, taking up space for native plants.
Assistant parks director for Green Bay, James Andersen, says when you identify a garlic mustard plant, be sure when you pull the plant, you remove all the roots.
And while the garlic mustard plant itself won’t hurt you, it’s important to be aware of other plants around it, like poison ivy.
There will be more organized garlic mustard pulls at other Green Bay parks. Click here for more information on how to volunteer.
