Christine Dunbar, executive director of the Brown County Historical Society, says the event has been done in the past, but only lasted for one day. After participants said it was difficult for them to make the events in such a short span of time, the Brown County Federation of History Organizations decided to make it a week-long series of events.
“We looked at ‘what do people want to see?’ and we really want to show all the different aspects of history in our community,” said Dunbar. “I think we’re all really pleased with how this came out.”
On Monday, the Brown County Historical Society hosted an event at the Hazlewood Historic House. Community members were able to take a tour and participate in a scavenger hunt showcasing all the historic, architectural details and 19th century artifacts the house has to offer. Anna Kortens enjoyed the event.
“You can google and try to find the history, but even that’s kind of hard to do. So until you go to a place like this, it’s hard to get those questions answered,” said Kortens. “Coming here I feel like I learned more just walking around compared to weeks of looking online.”
