GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay Police Department began National Police Week with a ceremony this (Monday) morning.
The department says the ceremony was intended to “respect, honor, and remember our law enforcement heroes who have died in the line of duty.”
The department’s honor guard took part.
Department chaplain Fr. Richard Getchel began the ceremony with a benediction. Mayor Eric Genrich, Police and Fire Commission President Rod Goldhahn and Chief Chris Davis also spoke.

National Police Week dates to 1962, when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls Police Week.
