The Milwaukee Brewers made it a weekend sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 9-6 Mother’s Day victory at American Family Field on Sunday. Kansas City got busy early trying to salvage the series finale as Salvador Perez hit a first inning home run off starter Colin Rea who exited after just three and two thirds innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits. The Milwaukee offense bailed out Rea however with a 7 run explosion in the third inning. Christian Yelich, who also homered in the first inning, his third in the last two games of the series, drove in a pair with a single and Brice Turang capped the rally with a three run shot. Mike Brosseau would add a solo homer later to give Milwaukee a 9-4 lead. Eric Lauer came on in relief, his first bullpen appearance in over three years and worked the final 5 and a third innings to pick up the win. His excellent outing was spoiled by giving up two solo home runs in the top the 9th but the Brewers had to big of a lead to overcome. Corbin Burnes pitched a gem in the series opener on Friday night, Joey Wiemer’s walk off sacrifice fly delivered the Saturday night win. Milwaukee moved back into first place in the NL Central with the sweep, now at 23-17 on the year, a game and a half in front of Pittsburgh. The Brewers hit the road for a three game series in St. Louis, coming off their own sweep of the Red Sox in Boston. Freddy Peralta will face Jack Flaherty in the opener from Busch Stadium. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:10 PM with a 6:45 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
