(WTAQ-WLUK) — The end of the sturgeon spawning run is coming quickly in Northeast Wisconsin.
The state Department of Natural Resources says only a few sturgeon have been spotted Thursday on the Wolf, Peshtigo and lower Fox rivers.
The spawning run came in two waves this year. Warm temperatures in April prompted fish to appear at places such as Bamboo Bend in Shiocton. Cooler weather that followed led the fish to stop spawning until this week.
Sturgeon need the water to be within a narrow range of temperatures for spawning to be effective.
The DNR has a list of locations to view the large fish as they come near the shore to spawn.
