GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A social media threat about a potential shooting at Green Bay’s Edison Middle School is under investigation.
The Green Bay Area Public School District notified families Monday night that there had been a threat of a potential shooting for Tuesday’s 5th hour at Edison.
In an email to families, GBAPS said, in part:
“Student and staff safety is our highest priority, and we take every threat seriously. Please remind your students of the importance of sharing with an adult when they hear or see something. If you or your child have any additional information you can report suspicious activity by contacting Speak Up/Speak Out at 1-800-697-8761 or Crime Stoppers at 920-432-STOP (7867). You may also submit a tip online at www.432stop.com or utilize the “P3 Tips” app for crime tips.
We also encourage you to speak with your children about the serious nature of making threats, whether verbally, written or on social media. All threats are investigated by administrators in collaboration with the GBPD. Students who make threats, even in jest, are subject to very serious consequences.
We appreciate your patience and understanding. If we are able to provide an update regarding this threat prior to the school day, we will send an email and text message.”
The Green Bay Police Department released a similar statement, saying it takes all threats very seriously and is working with the district to ensure the safety of district staff and students.
Extra officers will be at the school today (Tuesday) as a precautionary measure as the investigation continues.
