MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A University of Wisconsin-Green Bay student is among three people Gov. Tony Evers has appointed to the UW System Board of Regents.
Evan Brenkus was named student regent. He is a First Nations and mathematics student at UWGB, where he has been working as a resident mentor. Brenkus is involved in UWGB’s Student Government Association, the Intertribal Student Council and the Mathematics Club.
“I am excited and honored to serve as the student regent on the Board of Regents to make sure students have a voice at the table,” Brenkus said in a news release. “During my time at UW-Green Bay, I have been working to make our campus and community better, and I look forward to working with my fellow regents and students across the state to do the same for the entire UW System.”
Evers also named Jim Kreuser to the board. Kreuser is a former Kenosha County executive and state lawmaker.
“As the governor would say, I am ‘jazzed’ to be appointed to the UW Board of Regents,” Kreuser said in a news release. “I am a proud two-time Ranger, earning both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UW-Parkside. During my time serving and representing the Kenosha community, I saw firsthand the impact UW-Parkside and our UW System had on our corner of the state as a strong partner in educational opportunities and economic development. There is no limit to what our communities and our state are capable of when the UW System is strong, and this appointment is an opportunity for me to continue to give back to my community and my state in this volunteer position while adding value to the UW System to meet future needs.”
Both Brenkus and Kreuser succeed regents whose terms expired. Brenkus’ term is for two years, while Kreuser’s runs for seven years.
Joan Prince was reappointed to the board. She was first appointed in February after Tracey Klein resigned.
