GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County authorities are hosting a special program for students aspiring a future in law enforcement.
The Green Bay Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office are coming together for its 23rd annual Teen Police Academy.
The program, which serves as an introduction to the criminal justice profession, is open to Brown County students who are currently in grades 9-12 for the 2022-23 school year. It is scheduled for June 19-22, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., each day, at the Green Bay Police Department on S. Adams Street. Lunch will be provided.
Students will learn about specialty units such as Dive Team, K9, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). They will also hear from law enforcement officers, recruiting staff, meet the forensics team, test their skills at techniques such as lifting fingerprints along with other hands-on demonstrations, tour the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and the Brown County Jail.
“If you are thinking about pursuing a career in the criminal justice field, the Multi-Jurisdictional Teen Police Academy is your opportunity to get a glimpse at police work in the real world,” said Natalia Sidon, Green Bay Police Department Crime Prevention Coordinator. “We often see a great number of youths who have participated in the past, enter into a law enforcement career, sometimes locally.”
Class size will be limited to 30 students.
Applications will be accepted through Monday, May 22, 2023.
