OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A teacher who sent inappropriate messages to former students and asked to meet a teen for sex was convicted Monday, and was sentenced to three months in jail.
Brian Brown, 24, pleaded no contest Monday to exposing intimate parts to a child, exposing a child to harmful material, and disorderly conduct. He was also placed on probation for two years by Winnebago County Judge Scott Woldt, court records show.
One count of soliciting an intimate representation from a minor was dismissed.
A defense request to have the convictions cleared from Brown’s record after probation was denied, according to court records.
There are no allegations he had physical contact with students.
According to the criminal complaint, Brown taught in the Winneconne School District last year. After the school year ended, Brown sent messages over Snapchat to a 16-year-old girl. All showed a shirtless Brown sitting in a chair, with captions including “Come Cuddle,” “Your (sic) hot,” “You have the nicest (butt),” “Sneaky link?,” and “Wanna make out”.
The student declined the advances, even reminding Brown of her age. To which he replied, “it’s not illegal unless people find out.”
One message also had Brown offering the girl $40 to come to his residence.
Brown communicated with another girl, who sent him a photo of her chest, covered with her hand. Brown responded with a photo of male genitalia — but one he later told police was a photo he found on the internet.
He admitted to sending the messages.
“Brown stated that initially the conversations were causal and then they became flirtatious. Brown stated that the females initiated the flirting, which he thought was inappropriate. Brown stated that while all of the conversations with the students involved sex, the females were willing participants in the conversations,” the complaint says, although he knew they were underage.
Brown left Winneconne schools after last year, and taught social studies this year in Kimberly. Kimberly schools placed him on leave, pending the investigation. He resigned in November, school district meeting minutes show.
