GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Baseball is back. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers held a scrimmage Wednesday at its Fan Fest.
Fans were hoping to get a glimpse of some exciting renovations at the Fox Cities Stadium, but they are still a work in progress.
“We were sure hoping it would be done because we were looking forward to a tour, but, I think, at the same time knowing our winter that we had, it’s expected that there might be some delays,” says Lori Menning.
Dorothy Vrhovnik agrees.
“I pass the stadium on the highway and maybe I thought they’d be a little farther along to see more of the renovations, but that’s alright, it’s coming along.”
But that does not change the excitement.
“I think it could be fun for us kids that are here. I hope it will be fun for everybody who comes — if it’s adults or if it’s kids — I hope that they will improve it to make it the best for everyone,” says Malachi Vrhovnik.
The wraparound concourse will be ready sooner than most think.
“Tuesday is what we are going with. We just had a meeting yesterday about it so I said, you know, wraparound concourse is a priority — additional seating out there is a priority,” says Timber Rattlers President & CEO, Rob Zerjav.
Although the slide still has some time.
“Shooting for late May, early June,” says Zerjav.
Fans have been patiently waiting for the slide since its announcement.
“What are you most excited for, Emma? The slide right?” says Menning talking with her daughter. “She wants to try out the slide in left field.”
Parents of little ones share that excitement.
“I think having that play area, especially having little kids, having some place for the older ones to sit and watch the game but then the little ones to be occupied makes it a little more family friendly,” says Leslie Janezic.
“Will the big kids get to do it like me? That’s what I’m excited about,” says Vrhovnik.
The Brewers Class A affiliate opens their season Friday with the home opener next Tuesday.
