KESHENA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An enrolled member of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin was sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting the mother of his child.
Stephen Teller, Jr., 41, pleaded guilty in December to domestic assault by a habitual offender.
Last July, officers received a call from a home in Keshena, on the reservation. The caller said they saw Teller dragging a screaming woman into a nearby home.
Teller strangled the woman with his gun and punched her in the head and back, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Teller was in a domestic relationship with the woman and shared a child with her.
Teller was previously convicted of similar offenses in Menominee Tribal Court, making him eligible for federal prosecution.
“The fact that someone would do this to someone he had a child with is outrageous,” said Judge William Griesbach during sentencing.
After his time in prison, Teller will have three years of supervised released.
