ST. PETERSBURG, FL. (WTAQ) – Jason Moore from New London, WI and his son, 12 year old Chason, were found safe in St. Petersburg, Florida Wednesday morning. The two were reported missing on Monday after Jason told his ex-wife Charlotte Moore, who currently lives with Jason and Chason, that he was going to Appleton to get a car’s oil changed. Charlotte contacted police later that night after the two had not returned.
New London Police Chief, Jeff Schlueter, said when the incident was reported, there was no reason to believe Chason was in danger.
“There was no domestic incident or anything like that,” said Chief Schlueter. “That’s why we felt that during the investigation Chason was not in imminent danger at any time.”
At one point Jason had contacted Charlotte, leading her to believe they may be headed to a relative’s house in Florida.
Police say around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Jason approached an officer in St. Petersburg, looking for directions to his adult daughter’s house. The St. Petersburg officer ran the vehicle and Chason’s name through the system and saw New London police was looking for them.
St. Petersburg Police reunited Chason with his adult sister who lives in St. Petersburg, and Jason left the scene. Charlotte is going to get Chason soon to bring him back to Wisconsin.
Police say there are no arrests in this case and Jason is not in custody. The New London Police Department is currently working with the Waupaca County District Attorney regarding possible charges. More information may be given as it becomes available.
