GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Brown County OWI Task Force was busy on St. Patrick’s Day.
While being deployed in Green Bay from 7 p.m. on Friday, March 17 to 3 a.m. the next day, Lieutenant Tom Buchman with the Green Bay Police Department says multiple arrests were made.
“We were able to take 9 suspected drunk drivers off the road,” said Buchmann. “Hopefully that saved some lives and made the roads a little bit safer for everybody.”
The initiative was collaborative between the Brown County Sheriff’s office, Green Bay Police Department, Hobart-Lawrence Police Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol. The participating law enforcement agencies also issued 41 citations and 51 warnings for a variety of other traffic-related violations, and four separate arrests were made for non-traffic offenses.
“We made more OWI arrests during the deployment than we do on an average night. We appreciate those who did not get behind the wheel after celebrating and instead kept safety in mind, finding an alternative ride home.” said Buchmann.
The OWI Task Force was funded with the use of a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
