It was a tough finish to a fine season for the Green Bay Phoenix Women’s basketball team. Bowling Green delivered the knockout punch in the second round of the WNIT at the Kress Center Monday night, soundly beating GB 69-51 to advance to the round of 16. Allison Day led the Falcons (29-6) with 25 points, hitting 12 of 16 shots from the floor including her first six of the game. The Phoenix couldn’t come close to matching that shooting proficiency, making just 15 of 57 shots on the night (26.3%) which led to a season low in points scored. The game was tied at 17 after the first quarter but Green Bay managed only five points in the second. A three point hit before the buzzer put Bowling Green up by 8 at halftime. The Phoenix had one last burst in them, closing the gap to two early in the third but the Falcons steadily pulled away as the Green Bay shots weren’t dropping. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz led the way with 11 points before leaving the game early in the 4th quarter with an injury. Cassie Schiltz added 9 on just 2 of 11 shots and Sydney Levy finished her Green Bay career with 7 before fouling out late. Despite the loss, it was a very good year for Head Coach Kevin Borseth and the Phoenix, a 28-6 record and a regular season Horizon League Championship to their credit and outside of Levy and graduate transfers Tatum Koenig and Brehna Evans, the team returns intact with Brooklyn Blackburn and Maddie Schreiber coming back after missing most of the year with injury.
