MERRILL, WI (WTAQ) – Health officials in north central Wisconsin say they’ll do more to crack down on tobacco sales to youngsters under 18.
That’s after 4 of 29 businesses in Lincoln County sold cigarettes to minors last year, which followed no such sales in 2013.
Corie Zelazoski of the Northwoods Tobacco-Free Coalition says new state-issued IDs make it very easy to spot minors, as they have yellow bars which read “Under 18” until their birthdays of adulthood.
Zelazoski also says there are online tools to help retailers train their workers to avoid illegal underage tobacco sales.
