The Luther Knights are state basketball champs for the first time in school history as they defeated Kenosha St. Joseph 60-46 in the Division 4 title game at the Kohl Center Saturday afternoon. After losing in the semifinals in their only other prior appearance at state two years ago, Luther leaned on their big man, 6-7 junior Logan Bahr who poured in a game high 28 points. Gabe Huelskamp was the only other Knights player in double figures with 11. Luther was able to pull away when St. Joe’s went without a field goal for nearly 4 minutes down the stretch. The Lancers were led by Eric Kenesie with 18, after his single game tournament scoring record of 51 on Thursday in the semifinal victory over St. Mary Catholic. Peter Stapleton added 15 as St. Joseph finished 19-11. Luther, who wound up second in the Coulee Conference to D3 powerhouse West Salem, finished first in Division 4 with a record of 28-2.
