SHOREWOOD, WI (WTAQ) – A Milwaukee suburb has returned a sculpture to a village park, after it was changed to remove controversial wording.
Internationally-known artist Jaume Plensa created “Spillover II,” a crouching steel figure made from numerous letters.
Blogger Matt Sweetwood of New Jersey says he found anti-Semitic language when he viewed the sculpture last November, with the phrases “Cheap Jew” and “Fry Dead Jew.”
The work was donated to Shorewood in 2010, and it was placed in Atwater Park.
The Journal Sentinel says Plensa and his gallery reportedly paid to replace the offending language — and the sculpture was reinstalled during the weekend.
