MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin would lose $7.5 million in federal dollars each year, under a pair of bills passed by the state Senate.
All Republicans on hand voted yes, and all Democrats voted no late Wednesday on measures to reduced Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid reimbursements for prescription drugs — and to make the group ineligible for federal Title X family planning funds.
Democrats say the reimbursement cuts are unconstitutional, because they treat Planned Parenthood’s clinics differently than others.
Republicans say taxpayers should not support groups that perform abortions, even if the funding does not involve the procedure.
The reimbursement bill now goes to the Assembly, and the Title X funding ban goes to Governor Scott Walker for his signature.
