GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The second and final candidate for the position of Superintendent in Green Bay Area Public Schools, Dr. Claude Tiller Jr., introduced himself on Tuesday.
Tiller currently serves as Assistant Superintendent over High School Transformation with the Detroit Public Schools Community District in Michigan. Recently, the school district was recognized for their strong improvement in high school graduation rates for the 2021-2022 school year.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, Master of Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, Education Specialist from Wayne State University in Detroit, and Doctor of Education from American College of Education in Indiana.
Tiller shared why he was drawn to Green Bay.
“When I was researching Green Bay, I found out they had passed a $92.6 million referendum.” said Tiller. “When you pass a referendum like that, it shows me how much the community cares.”
School districts all across the nation are tackling declining enrollment. Tiller believes that’s due to the declining birth rate; but there are ways to solve the issue for the district such as attracting students from other districts and looking at boundary lines.
If selected for the position, Tiller has a 90-day entry plan.
“Part of my 90-day entry plan is engaging the community in what I call ‘Talking with Tiller Tours.’ I will go around to different parts of the district to engage the community and figure out what is needed.”
The Green Bay Area Public School District will approve the next superintendent’s contract at its April board meeting.
