UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News) Three Wisconsin Internet providers will get 570-million federal dollars over the next five years to speed up their service to rural areas. The Badger State is getting the nation’s second-highest grants under the F-C-C’s Connect America Fund-Two — and only California is getting more.
Century Link gets $330-million to provide fiber-optic high-speed Internet service to about 129,000 homes and businesses. Frontier is receiving $186-million to serve 76,000 locations, and A-T-&-T is getting $54-million to serve 24,000 rural buildings.
Much of Wisconsin’s funding is expected to go to lesser-populated northern areas which have a hard time competing for businesses due to a lack of high-speed Internet.
