Green Bay Gamblers give toys to Aurora BayCare Pediatric Patients Feb. 28 2023.
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — After Saturday’s Teddy Bear Toss during the Green Bay Gamblers hockey game, members of the team were able to present the toys to children at Aurora BayCare on Tuesday.
Over 5 thousand bears were tossed during the game. Jacob Martin, who plays defense for the gamblers, described being on the ice during the toss.
“It was an experience I’ll remember probably for the rest of my life,” said Martin. “I went in shock from how many there were. They kept on coming and coming for what felt like 15 minutes; it was awesome.”
Pediatrician Dr. Donald Beno said the stuffed animals have a lasting impact on patients.
“Over the years we’ve given out thousand and thousands of bears to kids,” said Beno. “I know that many of them remember that bear even years later, and are thankful that made their day.”
Fans brought teddy bears to the game and tossed 5,610 bears on the ice when Gamblers player Matt DiMarsico scored the team’s first goal in the first period.
Since its inception, the Teddy Bear Toss game has produced more than 100,000 teddy bears for area pediatric patients and other charitable organizations where it has helped a child in a time of need.
