FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Nearly $65,000, three pounds of marijuana and a gun were recovered in Fond du Lac during a burglary investigation that involved a high speed chase.
The Fond du Lac Police Department says it received a burglary complaint in the 100 block of S. Portland Street shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday. Officers were able to get a description of the vehicle believed to be involved in the burglary.
On Tuesday, police then located that vehicle parked in the 500 block of Russell Street. The department says it began surveillance of the vehicle while obtaining a search warrant.
At roughly 8:35 a.m. that day, two people entered the vehicle and started to leave the area.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the Speedway Gas Station on Johnson Street. As officers approached, the vehicle drove away on W. Johnson Street.
After driving at speeds up to 80 mph, the vehicle stopped near the intersection of Streblow Drive. Officers then conducted a “high-risk stop” and arrested the driver, a 32-year-old Fond du Lac man, and the passenger, a 48-year-old Fond du Lac man.
Detectives found nearly $56,000 in the vehicle and nearly $9,000 on one of the men. A handgun, three pounds of marijuana and evidence of the initial burglary were also found, according to police.
Police are recommending the following criminal charges: burglary, fleeing/eluding, felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver.
The burglary and vehicle chase remains under active investigation.
