GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — With plans to spend $1.2 million to repair the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge, Gov. Tony Evers visited Green Bay Tuesday to discuss the bridge’s future.
During Evers’ budget speech last week, he revealed some of his plans for infrastructure improvements, including the Green Bay bridge.
He says the repairs are needed to make sure the bridge remains safe and accessible for travelers.
“While we can find ways to save, we have a duty to invest in the needs that have been rejected. But we cannot afford to be careless or reckless; we have a duty to protect,” said Evers. “Our infrastructure is ready for the 21st-century workforce.”
Some Republicans say that Democratic Evers has good ideas on how to spend tax dollars and Wisconsin’s historic surplus, but they say they need more details.
Evers has also promised $50 million in the state’s biennial budget to help build the Southern Bridge over the Fox River.
