It’s a polar opposite year for Green Bay Phoenix basketball.
The women’s team has put themselves in position to earn their first Horizon League title in five years after taking two road games this weekend to extend their winning streak to 9 in a row. On Friday, the Lady Phoenix rolled past Robert Morris 61-37, outscoring the Colonials 25-0 in the second quarter. Sydney Levy led the way with 16 points. On Sunday, GB took care of Youngstown State 67-54 with a big first quarter, getting up 18-6 after one in the wire to wire victory. Callie Genke put up a career high 17 points with Cassie Schiltz adding 16 and Jenna Guyer putting up 15 off the bench. Green Bay is now a glittering 23-4 on the season, 16-2 in Horizon League play, sharing first with Cleveland State and the Lady Phoenix will host the Vikings Thursday night with the winner earning at lesat a share of the title with two games left to play.
The Green Bay men dropped both games on their road trip, falling to league leading Youngstown State on Saturday 95-65. Cade Meyer put up 14 points with 10 rebounds and Ryan Wade added 13. GB falls to 3-26 on the year, 2-16 in the Horizon.
They’ll finish up the regular season by hooking up with the women for a pair of doubleheaders at the Kress Center. The GB women, Cleveland State showdown will tip off at 5:30 PM Thursday with the men playing the Vikings at 8:00 PM. Saturday’s regular season finales will feature Purdue Fort Wayne with the women playing at 1:00 PM and the men following at 4:00 PM.
