GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A WNCY Y100 Valentine’s Day tradition is still going strong; four local couples got married Tuesday morning live on air on 100.3 Y100 through Shotgun Weddings.
Y100’s Shotgun and Charli have been doing Shotgun Weddings for the last five years.
“I go by the air name ‘Shotgun’, and I had this idea one day, ‘I’m an ordained minister, Shotgun weddings could be really funny,'” said Shotgun. “Then I quickly realized this could actually be a really cool thing.”
Shotgun began performing these ceremonies every Valentine’s Day five years ago. The first year saw 60 couples enter to win; this year that number was 120. Four couples are selected each year at random.
Sponsors of the event provide everything needed for the day. Krieger Jewelers provides the wedding rings, The Bridal Event provides the wedding dress, and Gather on Broadway provides the venue; just to name a few. Shotgun himself performs the ceremony.
“It has all of the high notes; we talk about love and togetherness,” said Shotgun. “But we also try to make sure it’s very listenable and enjoyable to the people tuning in as well.”
Couples that were married on Valentine’s Day were Shauna and Robert, Kellie and Jesse, Abbie and JJ, and Tara and Jim.
