WINNEBAGO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports that day two of the 2023 Winnebago sturgeon spearing season was considerably slower than Saturday.
Only 261 fish were harvested throughout the system. That number includes 42 juvenile females, 93 adult females, and 126 males. This is only about half of the fish registered on Saturday.
On Lake Winnebago, 211 fish were registered. This consisted of 31 juvenile females, 83 adult females, and 97 males. Only 50 lake sturgeon were harvested on upriver lakes (11 juvenile females, 10 adult females, and 29 males).
Only 5 fish harvested Sunday were over 100 pounds. The largest was a female that measured in at 162.6 pounds, and 76.1 inches long. It was caught on Lake Poygan.
