TOWN OF MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) — The man who turned himself in after the third murder in a month in the Madison area was given a $500,000 cash bail on Friday.
28-year-old Kortney Moore surrendered to police after security footage allegedly showed him shooting and killing 28-year-old Elijah Washington at a Capital Petro Mart gas station. Moore’s brother, Martez Moore, was fatally shot outside Martin O’Grady’s Irish Pub on April 19th, and a friend of Kortney Moore, Darius M. Haynes, was killed on May 10th.
The criminal complaint says Washington’s sister saw a man chasing her brother out of the station and heard gun shots. She says she found her brother still concious in the parking lot and he told her that he was “probably going to die today.” Moore has been charged with first degree reckless homicide.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports that Moore’s brother and friend were part of a rumored “hit list” being spread around social media and by word of mouth. Moore had made contact with Darius Haynes only a day before his death.
