GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A UW-Green Bay student is in jail after an incident in a student apartment building on campus Tuesday night.
The University announced Wednesday that UWGB Police responded to James Temp Hall shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, as a man was pounding on doors repeatedly. Police say he appeared under the influence and they were sent to conduct a welfare check.
University police found the 18-year-old student, Joel Xaiver Robinson-Sellers from Chicago, on the first floor. After talking to him, officers believed he was under the influence of a controlled substance.
The officers found prescription medications, suspected marijuana, and suspected psilocybin mushrooms in Robinson-Sellers’ backpack.
While officers searched the backpack, a gun — commonly known as a “ghost gun” — fell from Robinson-Sellers. Officers also found a magazine, which they say was capable of holding 29 rounds.
UWGB Police seized the drugs, gun, and cash from Robinson-Sellers; the student said the money was related to drug deals, according to the criminal complaint.
Robinson-Sellers explained his behavior by saying he had drank and entire bottle of “Henny.”
Robinson-Sellers is in the Brown County jail and is facing charges for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of THC.
If convicted of carrying a concealed weapon, Robinson-Sellers could face a fine of up to $10,000 and jailtime of up to nine months.
UWGB said Wednesday that “the safety and security of our students is the single highest priority on our campus.”
