There is no shortage of very good High School Girls basketball teams in the area and several have locked up or are closing in on regular season conference championships.
On Tuesday night, the Notre Dame Tritons routed Manitowoc 91-25 to clinch at least a share of their third straight Fox River Classic Conference title. Freshman Kaia Waldrop led five players in double figures with 18 points as the Lady Tritons won their 20th straight game since an opening night loss to Pewaukee. Notre Dame improved to 15-0 in the FRCC as the top ranked team in the state in Division 2 will set it’s sights on a third straight WIAA State Championship under Head Coach Sarah Rhode.
Brillion clinched the outright Eastern Wisconsin Conference championship with a 62-50 victory over Valders. They are now 12-0 in the EWC and 17-4 overall.
In the Packerland Conference, Sevastopol clinched a share of the title by beating Gibratlar 54-20 to get to 12-0 in the conference, 19-1 overall. They have a three game lead with three games to play.
Freedom, top ranked in the state in Division 3, took a big step toward the Northeastern Conference title by beating second place Fox Valley Lutheran 48-44, giving them a two game lead with three to play. The Irish girls are 16-0 in the NEC, 20-1 overall.
To other races will be settled in the coming days. In the Fox Valley Association, third ranked Hortonville bounced back from last Saturday’s overtime loss to Notre Dame with a 67-40 win over Appleton West. The Polar Bears are 19-2 overall, 14-1 in the FVA and have a date with 15-1 and second ranked Neenah this Friday night. The winner should lay claim to the title.
The Bay Conference champ will likely be determined on the final night of the regular season on February 16. West De Pere leads at 10-1, and they’ll host 9-1 New London in the finale.
