GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Better Business Bureau warns that scammers are out looking for those who could use what appears as help during the Government shutdown.
Bogus Employers, Government robocalls and phony lenders are all examples of Government shutdown scam tactics.
“With this shutdown, it sort of gives scammers a new twist on an old scam. They are going to approach people with a quick paycheck, quick pay the bills.”
Susan Bach with the Better Business Bureau says Online employment ads and websites may offer side hustles to tide over federal workers and contractors until their day jobs resume.
“We have already heard about furloughed employees who are being hit by lone scams, temporary job scams like secret shoppers.”
She says once again, scammers pick a target victim based on their current situation.
“They are vulnerable, they need money fast, and they are not checking it out first before they go forward.”
The BBB says Don’t even consider a job that requires a fee up front and Never give anyone who contacts you unsolicited your personal information.
