GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Northeast Wisconsin residents will now have the option to fly directly to Denver, Colorado and those booking a flight quickly will be rewarded with extremely low fares.
It was announced on Tuesday that Frontier Airlines, which is headquartered in Denver, will be adding services to Green Bay’s Austin Straubel International Airport.
The one-way flights will be offered three days a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
Flights leaving Denver and headed to Green Bay will depart at 2:11 p.m. and arrive at 5:29 p.m.
While flights from Austin Straubel International Airport to Denver will depart at 6:19 p.m. and arrive at 7:52 p.m.
Marty Piette, Austin Straubel International Airport Director, says the demand was there.
“Denver is actually our seventh-most popular origin-destination city,” he says. “Which means that out of all the city’s that people can connect to out of GRB, Denver is the seventh most popular.”
Will Evans, Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications with Frontier Airlines, agrees that there’s typically a response once demands are identified.
“As many people and love that we get from the community we give back,” he explains.
Flights will begin on May 23, 2019, and travelers booking a one-way flight to Denver soon will be eligible for especially low rates.
“We’re doing an introductory fare of $49 one-way to Denver,” explains Evans. “You can’t beat that, you really can’t.”
That fare is being offered via Frontier Airlines to travelers that book their flight by the end of January 23, 2019.
Evans explains that they’re able to keep their fares reasonably low by offering an a la carte type of system.
“If you want to check a bag, there’s a charge for it,” he says. “If you want a stretch seat, there’s a charge for it.”
Officials with Austin Straubel Internation Airport hope the new air service will appeal to families that can’t typically break the bank on a flight.
“Frontier Airlines is a low-cost leader in the industry, so this is certainly going to help out our airfares,” says Piette. “It also provides new service that we haven’t had in the past.”
Austin Straubel International Airport reported a record increase in the number of travelers in 2018 and they believe the announcement of a new route coupled with reasonable fares will help those numbers continue an upward trend into 2019.
