OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – The Oshkosh Police Department is making efforts to help navigate non-emergency phone calls.
“This way instead of having to talk to an operator and explain who you are looking to talk to, they are going to get the answers they need right when they call in.”
Starting February 1st, the phone system will include an auto attendant that will direct calls to the department that they need to go without speaking to an operator first.
“It will help people out and improve customer service.”
Officer Kate Mann says in the past, callers had to wait for their calls to be directed and the busier the day, the longer the process took.
“We saw that there might be a need for a change for us due to the volume of calls received and we are hoping that this will really help with the needs of our community.”
Phone options include requesting police reports, file a report, and general questions.
The Police Department is also making requests for permission to park overnight on city streets possible to be completed online. That will also begin on February 1st.
