STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The U.S. Coast Guard says that seven people were rescued from a frozen Green Bay on Tuesday near Sturgeon Bay.
The people were stranded about a mile northeast of Snake Island and were in an ice shanty, but had trouble with their utility task vehicle and the bad weather.
The temperature was -4 with a wind chill factor of -30 and there were large snow drifts, according to the Coast Guard.
None of the people sustained injuries as the Coast Guard and Wisconsin DNR used airboats to take the people back to shore.
Local firefighters assisted with the rescue and the Coast Guard recommends that people avoid going onto the ice during this stretch of extremely cold temperatures.
