FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – Fond Du Lac fire had to put out a small fire at Mercury Marine Wednesday afternoon.
Officials say the fire started on a heating unit at the top the building.
According to Fond du Lac fire chief Peter O’Leary, fighting fires in the extreme cold isn’t an easy task.
“With subzero temperatures and wind chills hovering at -30 degrees, firefighters work becomes more difficult than normal,” says Chief O’Leary. “We were fortunate in this case that the fire was quickly extinguished. We have additional staffing during this cold snap and we quickly called in off-duty staff to keep the city protected while companies were at Mercury.”
No evacuations were reported and no one was hurt.
